Free Markdown invoice template

An invoice should take five minutes a month. The Markdown invoice template gets you there - you set up the structure once, save the configuration, and re-issue every cycle by changing two numbers.

What the Invoice template gives you

  • Issuer and recipient blocks at the top.
  • Issued / Due / Reference line for the invoice metadata.
  • Line-item table - Description / Qty / Rate / Total.
  • Subtotal, VAT, and Total rows with bold treatment on the total.
  • Payment block - IBAN, bank, reference number.
  • No cover page (invoices are one-pagers).
  • Page numbers off (also because it's a one-pager).

Re-issuing every month

Set up the invoice structure once with your real issuer details, your VAT number, your IBAN. Save the configuration to a file (Save · Load section). For every following invoice, load the config, change the date, the invoice number, and the line items, then export. The whole loop is a minute.

Tax + numbering nuance

VAT rates differ by jurisdiction - the template ships with a placeholder you should overwrite. Invoice numbers should be sequential and unique; many tax authorities require this. Pick a scheme like INV-YYYY-NNNN at the start of the year and stick with it.

FAQ

Is the invoice template legally compliant in my country?

Probably yes for most jurisdictions, but you're responsible for verifying. Check what your tax authority requires (your VAT/EIN number, the recipient's tax ID, payment terms). The template is structurally compliant - you fill in the local content.

Can I add a discount line?

Yes. Add a row to the line-item table - `| Discount - repeat-client (10%) | | | -204 |` - and the total recalculates by hand on your side. The template doesn't do automatic arithmetic.

Can I email the PDF directly from the converter?

No. The converter doesn't send mail. The PDF downloads to your machine; attach it to your usual email client.
