Markdown one-pager template
The one-pager is the underrated document format. It forces you to leave out everything that isn't the point - and the reader notices.
The structure that fits one page
- Title - H1, six words or fewer.
- Summary - one paragraph, three to five sentences.
- Why - one paragraph or three bullets.
- What we propose - one paragraph or a small table.
- Ask - one short paragraph, what you need from the reader.
What to cut
- Background sections that take more than a paragraph.
- Bullets that read as paragraphs.
- Repeated phrasing - say each thing once.
- Buzzwords that don't carry weight (synergize, leverage, optimize).
Recommended visual setup
Design: aplle (Apple-style generous whitespace) or rotion (Notion-style warm). Font family: inter-pair or hanken-spacemono. The mono titles in hanken-spacemono add character without taking up vertical space.
FAQ
What if it doesn't fit on one page?
Then it isn't a one-pager. Either accept that and turn page numbers back on, or cut. The point of the format is the discipline - adding a second page defeats it.
Should I use bullets or prose?
Prose for any section that's an argument; bullets for any section that's a list of equally-weighted items. A 5-point list of Reasons Why almost always reads worse than a paragraph.
Can I include a small chart?
Yes, drag-and-drop a PNG chart into the editor. Keep it small - half the page width is plenty. A one-pager should still feel like text plus one image, not a slide.
